Vegan Sliceable "Cheese"

Vegan Sliceable "Cheese"

Makes 600g

Ingredients:

3 tablespoons agar agar powder

1 cup water

1¼ cups sesame seeds

¼ cup lemon juice

4 tablespoons nutritional yeast flakes

1 large sweet red pepper (200g), deseeded and cut small

1 tablespoon salt

1 teaspoon onion powder

½ teaspoon garlic powder

Method:

  1. Grind sesame seed as fine as possible

  2. Add the rest of the ingredients, except the agar agar and the water, blend till smooth

  3. Dissolve agar agar in water

  4. Bring water with dissolved agar agar to boil and cook stirring all the time for 2 minutes

  5. Add the cooked agar agar (while still hot) in blender and blend till smooth and creamy

  6. Immediately pour into mold, before it can set in the blender

  7. Let cool for an hour or so

  8. When set, can be sliced for on bread, or when frozen can be grated for pizza.

Tip:

Prepare all the ingredients well before hand, so once the agar agar is cooked everything can immediately be blended and transferred into a mold.

Use different molds, like small square bowls or tall straight jars (sausage form) to get different shapes

Variation:

Use a green or yellow sweet pepper instead of the red, or use two fresh tomatoes (200g). This will give it different color and slightly different taste.

You can also substitute the nutritional yeast flakes with brewers yeast.
